Sprained ankle lands Jays' Lawrie on DL

The Toronto Blue Jays placed third baseman Brett Lawrie on the disabled list Wednesday with a sprained left ankle.

Lawrie, who was injured Monday while sliding into second base, is hitting .209 with five home runs and 14 RBI in 37 games this season.

It's his second go-round on the disabled list this year. The 23-year-old started the season on the DL with a rib-cage injury.

While Lawrie is sidelined, the Blue Jays' options at third include veteran Mark DeRose or Maicer Izturis.

The team also made several other roster moves, recalling right-handers Todd Redmond and Neil Wagner to Toronto, optioning right-hander Thad Weber to Triple-A Buffalo and designating right-hander Ramon Ortiz and first baseman Clint Robinson for assignment.
