Sports Bars Near the U.S. Open in Flushing, New York

The U.S. Open Tennis will begin on Aug. 27, 2012, at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows (Queens), N.Y. This tournament will draw tennis fans from all over the world for a two-week period.

Flushing Meadows Queens is a rich neighborhood and offers lots of places to watch U.S. Open tennis near Arthur Ashe Stadium. You are also only a short subway ride away from some of the best sports bars in Manhattan.

1. Roosevelt Sports Bar: This bar is close to the location of the U.S. Open at 133 Roosevelt Ave and very close to the subway station by Shea Stadium. This is the quintessential sports bar that everyone thinks of in New York, with a 35-foot bar and nine plasma screen televisions so you don't miss a minute of the action. Small bar food is available, but patrons visit this bar for the sports fans and the coverage of sporting events.

2. The Zebra Lounge: The Zebra Lounge on Farrington Street in Flushing is an Asian fusion bar that boasts hip décor, couches and loads of TVs. There is waiter service and a large bar for all the tennis fans to congregate. Moderately priced, it is a haven for sports fans.

3. McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon: Another bar on Rossevelt Avenue in Flushing, this bar is a winner for those tennis fans driving in as they have their own parking lot. A bit on the noisy side, this sports bar is a participant in the VIP package for sports tickets.

4. Tap House: A bit farther distance at 72-07 Austin Street in Forest Hills, the Tap House has good service, is a true sports bar, and isn't far from the tennis venue. Decent bar food and 10 42-inch plasma televisions make it a great place to watch the U.S. Open.

5. Kelly's Pub: A short distance from the tennis stadium at 41st Street, this is known for being a little "hole in the wall" bar with outstanding prices. A no-frills bar with televisions to see the events.

6. Tropix: This is an upscale bar, nightclub, and hot spot. Burgers, wraps, sandwiches and a full bar are available. There is an outside dining area and a specialty wing menu. They run specials and cater to a well-dressed crowd. Tropix is located at 9532 Queens Blvd in Rego Park, N.Y.

7. Donovan's Pub: A Roosevelt Ave. pub that is a short cab ride or drive away. It has award-winning burgers as well as a full bar. Located in the Irish belt of the Woodside section, this bar is a U.S. Open fan favorite.

8. Café Rubio Sports Bar and Restaurant: This bar is a Carribean and International bar and restaurant with a very full menu that includes a good mix of seafood. Outstanding customer service and close location make this a great place for tennis enthusiasts looking for something other than bar food. Café Rubio is located at 98-05 Northern Boulevard in Corona, N.Y., and is about a 10-minute walk from Arthur Ashe Stadium.

9. Austin's Steak and Ale House: A Kew Gardens gem that is both a steak house and a sports bar. This bar is pricey, but well worth the extra money and ride. It is a short ride down the Grand Central Parkway at 82-70 Austin Street, Kew Gardens, N.Y. Full restaurant menu, outside dining, large beer list, and lots of places to see the action.

10. Hollywood and Main: This bar is very close to the tennis venue at 5733 Main Street in Flushing, N.Y. This local bar has good food, decent burgers and late hours. Minutes from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
