After a quiet offseason, Sporting Kansas City has made its first major addition of 2014.
Kansas City on Tuesday announced the signing of Spanish midfielder Antonio Rodriguez Dovale, regularly known as "Toni." The left-sided player joins from La Liga side Celta de Vigo.
"We are happy to be able to add a player of his quality to our roster," Kansas City coach Peter Vermes said in a news release. "He can play multiple positions within our system and we hope that we can help him to adapt to our team and to Major League Soccer as quickly as possible."
The 23-year-old spent four years in Barcelona's youth academy before signing with Celta in 2009. The club earned promotion to La Liga for the 2012-13 campaign, with Dovale making 14 league appearances last season and 12 this past fall.
