Sporting Kansas City and the Houston Dynamo played to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the Eastern Conference finals at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston on Saturday.
The second leg will be at Sporting Park in Kansas City on Nov. 23. The winner of the two-leg series will play in the MLS Cup on Dec. 7 against the winner of the Western Conference finals between Real Salt Lake and Portland.
If Kansas City advances, the MLS Cup will be at Sporting Park. If Houston advances, the Dynamo will be on the road.
This is the third straight year -- and fourth time overall -- that these two squads have met in the MLS playoffs. Houston has won every time.
Houston won 2-0 in the Eastern Conference finals in 2011. The Dynamo claimed a 2-1 aggregate win in the conference semifinals last season. They won the first leg 2-0 at home, and Kansas City claimed a 1-0 win in the second leg but couldn't net the equalizer.
Both teams advanced to this conference finals with wins in two overtimes Wednesday night. Houston defeated the New York Red Bulls 2-1 to claim a 4-3 aggregate victory. Sporting came from behind to defeat the New England Revolution 3-1 to claim a 4-3 aggregate victory.
