Are you looking for a place in Southern Pennsylvania to take the family sledding or snow tubing this winter? If so, I may be able to help. I happen to know of several sledding and tubing spots located in the region. Here's a quick look at a few of them:
Shawnee State Park
Bedford County's Shawnee State Park is a great sledding and tubing spot for families on a budget. The sledding hill is located near the Clearfield's Picnic Area and Pavilion 2. Picnic tables, charcoal grills and restrooms are located in the area. Families will need to bring their own sleds, ice rescue equipment and picnic supplies. Admission is free and there are other winter activities available onsite as well. Other activities on offer include snowshoeing, ice skating and cross-country skiing.
Codorus State Park
York County's Codorus State Park features two sledding areas. One is located in the Pigeon Hill Marina Day Use Area. The other is located at the far end of Chapel Cove. I'd suggest that younger children use the sledding area in Pigeon Hill because it's not that steep. Families looking for a faster sledding experience should head towards Chapel Cove. Admission is gratis and families must bring their own sports equipment. Restrooms, charcoal grills and picnic tables are located on premise.
Heritage Hills Resort
Heritage Hills Resort is located in York County. It features a snow tubing area known as AvalancheXpress. The snow tubing area is traditionally groomed and lit up at night. Signed waivers are required and snow tubes are provided. There are warming areas and opportunities to grab a hot chocolate onsite too. An outdoor ice skating area is available as well. For families that are interested, current prices, hours of operation and ticket information are posted on the facility's website.
Roundtop Mountain Resort
Roundtop Mountain Resort is also located in York County. It features a snow tubing area that is suitable for families with kids of all ages. Hours of operation and prices vary. Warming areas, snow tubes, food and hot beverages are available on premise. One of the best times to visit is in January when the resort holds its Cardboard Derby.
Whitetail Resort
Whitetail Resort is located in Franklin County. It features a family friendly snow tubing area. The snow tubing area has 10 lanes, including a section reserved for preschool age children. Food, beverages and a warming area are available onsite. Prices and additional snow tubing information are posted on the resort's website.
