South Carolina WR out of bowl game
South Carolina wide receiver Damiere Byrd will miss the Capital One Bowl game against Wisconsin on Jan. 1 in Orlando, Fla, because of a knee injury.
Byrd, the ninth-ranked Gamecocks' second leading receiver this season, hurt the knee during practice this week. South Carolina (10-2) announced Friday that Byrd will have arthroscopic surgery in a few days to repair the damage.
South Carolina faces No. 19 Wisconsin (9-3) on New Year's Day.
Byrd had 33 catches for 575 yards and four touchdowns, including a 76-yarder for a score against Tennessee -- during the regular season.
A team spokesman said there is hope that Byrd, who also runs track, will be able to return in time for spring practice.
