Are you headed to South Carolina this fall? If so, you may want to consider visiting one of the Palmetto State's public lakes. There are several that are well suited for fall fishing endeavors. As a matter of fact, many of the state's high profile lakes attract a large number of anglers to their shores each year. Other lesser known lakes are considered hidden gems and draw minimal crowds. With that said, here's a quick peek at a few of them:
Cherokee Lake
Cherokee County's Cherokee Lake is a 50-acre body of water that is home to bluegill, bass, catfish and shellcracker. There is a boat ramp, picnic areas and a fishing pier located onsite. The surrounding area is also home to three other super fishing spots. They are Lake Thicketty, Edwin Johnson Lake and Lake Welchel. Anglers in need of fishing supplies may want to consider stopping by the RiverBlade Knife and Fly. It is located in Spartanburg.
Ashwood Lake
Lee County's Ashwood Lake is a 75-acre body of water. A fishing pier, picnic areas, a boat ramp and campsites are located on premise. The lake is also located within driving distance of several other great fishing spots. They include Lake Wateree, Lake Murray, Lake Robinson and the Santee River. Species of fish on offer at Ashwood Lake include catfish, bass and bluegill.
Edgar Brown Lake
Barnwell County's Edgar Brown Lake is a 100-acre body of water. Two fishing piers and a boat ramp are located onsite. Species of fish that call the lake home are shellcracker, bluegill, bass and catfish. Fishing supplies are available at the Number one Bait and Tackle. It is located in North Augusta.
Lake George Warren
Lake George Warren is located in Hampton County. It is a 200-acre body of water that is accessible through the Lake Warren State Park. It offers anglers access to a fishing pier, boat rentals, two boat ramps, a boat dock and restrooms. There is also an additional fishing pond and picnic areas located onsite. Catfish, bluegill, bass, crappie and shellcracker call the lake's waters home. The park opens daily and admission is gratis.
Oliphant Lake
Oliphant Lake is located in Chester County. It is a 40-acre lake that is home to catfish, shellcracker and bass. Anglers will find a fishing pier and a boat ramp located onsite. Fishing supplies are available at Lake Wylie Bait and Tackle. It is located in Lake Wylie, which is another great spot to go fishing. Lake Wylie is located in York County.
