South Alabama's Augustine Rubit put back his own missed layup with 34 seconds left to give the Jaguars a 72-71victory over Florida Atlantic in a Sun Belt Conference game Saturday night. The Owls (11-15, 6-10) failed to get off a shot in the closing seconds when Greg Gantt stepped out of bounds on a baseline drive with just 0.6 left before he could get off his pass to Richard Morrow, who actually made a basket that was nullified by the turnover. The Jaguars (14-9, 11-4) were down 71-70 after FAU's Jordan McCoy made two free throws with 1:02 left. After a timeout, the Jaguars worked the ball to Rubit, who missed an open shot but made the follow-up. Rubit ended up with 18 points to lead the Jaguars. Gantt led all scorers with 23 points. The Owls now have lost three in a row and six of their last seven games. South Alabama has won three in a row and six of its last seven. The Jaguars have the second-best record in the Sun Belt and are second in the East Division behind Middle Tennessee.
