Sources: Florida courting Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin

Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin has emerged as the leading candidate to become the new athletic director at Florida, multiple sources have confirmed to Yahoo Sports. The Jackson Clarion-Ledger and other media entities reported Stricklin’s candidacy earlier Tuesday.

However, sources said a formal offer has neither been made nor accepted at this point.

Stricklin is a Mississippi State graduate, and sources said it would take a strong offer for him to leave his alma mater. He reportedly rebuffed initial inquiries from Florida, but the allure of leading one of the premier athletic departments in the nation has caused him to reconsider.

Outgoing Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley has said he would stay on in that position through Oct. 1, though it is unclear if Stricklin could be in place in Gainesville by then if a deal is finalized.
