Sources: Diego Restrepo to train with D.C. United, but no contract imminent

Former U.S. youth international goalkeeper Diego Restrepo will join D.C. United for the first week of preseason training, sources told Goal.com Tuesday.

The 24-year-old has no contract in place with D.C. and may leave the MLS club after the first week. Restrepo, who tweeted Monday "Back to the USA on Wednesday, very excited to start a new chapter," is still said to have options in South America, and D.C. still employs Bill Hamid, who is firmly entrenched as the team's No. 1 goalkeeper.

With Hamid training with the U.S. national team in California ahead of the Jan. 29 friendly against Canada, Restrepo will join United briefly. D.C. Backups Joe Willis (Sunderland) and Andrew Dykstra (Hartlepool United) are currently training with clubs in England, but both are expected back by Thursday's first day of preseason training, according to a United official.

Restrepo most recently played for Deportivo Táchira in Venezuela, where he was born, after transferring from Colombian club America de Cali. The goalkeeper moved to the United States as a teenager and attended the University of Virginia before becoming a professional, helping backstop the Cavaliers to the 2009 NCAA championship.
