Source: Falcons extremely interested in Jon Asamoah

The Atlanta Falcons have an extremely high degree of interest in Kansas City Chiefs free agent offensive guard Jon Asamoah, according to league sources.

Signing Asamoah could be an expensive propostion, though.

Asamoah, 25, could provide an upgrade as a pass blocker for a Falcons offensive line that allowed quarterback Matt Ryan to be sacked 44 times last season. Ryan threw 26 touchdowns with a career-high 17 interceptions as the NFC South team finished 4-12.

The New York Jets arre among several NFL teams also interested in Asamoah, who's expected to be in heavy demand as a healthy young blocker in his prime.

Asamoah started nine games last season.

He's a former third-round draft pick from Illinois who started 31 games in 2011 and 2012.
