Soria's return delayed until July

The SportsXchange

The season debut of Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joakim Soria will be delayed until July because of a strained pectoral muscle, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Soria, who signed a two-year, $8 million contract during the offseason, was expected to be ready to pitch for the Rangers in late May or early June after having Tommy John surgery last April.

However, he recently suffered a strained pectoral muscle and will be shut down for the next 2-3 weeks.

This problem is unrelated to the Tommy John surgery, and the Rangers hope have Soria back by July 1.

Soria, 28, has a 2.40 career ERA in his five seasons in the majors. He is expected to be the set-up man for Joe Nathan when he returns.
