Smith's shutout streak comes to an end

Phoenix Coyotes goalie Mike Smith finally allowed a goal -- after stopping 161 straight shots and more than 234 minutes on the ice over four-plus games -- but he was more than happy to settle for a fourth straight win to move the Coyotes within one victory of the first division title in franchise history.

Smith now has the second-longest shutout streak in Phoenix/Winnipeg franchise history, trailing only Brian Boucher and his modern-day NHL record of 332:01 in 2003-04. He finished with 31 saves and overcame a scary moment in the second period when he was involved in a collision with teammate Rostislav Klesla.

"I think we played more to our identity tonight," Smith said. "I think we were happy obviously with the outcome, but more so the way we played and how we won. It was nice to get back playing a gritty game, one we're going to have to play down the stretch."
