Note: Fantasy expert Rob Bolton provides his list of sleeper picks for every tournament. This week, he focuses his below-the-radar selections for the HP Byron Nelson Championship:
|
Harris English ...First-timer at Colonial. Established the course record at nearby Gleneagles Country Club on Monday with a 60 in his first round of the 36-hole qualifier for the British Open. (He chased it with a 63, went bogey-free for the day, and medaled by four strokes.) His last PGA TOUR start resulted in a major fade on the weekend at TPC Sawgrass where he teed off in the penultimate pairing on Saturday with eventual champion Matt Kuchar. It was the rookie's second session with a would-be winner following his front-row seat alongside Rory McIlroy in the final group in the final round at The Honda Classic. That kind of interactive observation is invaluable. As it relates to Colonial Country Club, English is on record for stating that he loves tree-lined tracks. He's long and not necessarily accurate off the tee, but he ranks 37th on TOUR in greens in regulation.
Jason Bohn ...In the field on a sponsor's exemption, the two-time PGA TOUR winner snapped out of a season-long funk with a share of ninth place at last week's HP Byron Nelson Championship. He led the field in fairways hit at TPC Four Seasons Resort and was one of just 10 with two rounds in the 60s on the weekend. Overall, he ranks 14th in driving accuracy, which will serve well again this week. He's logged top 25s in half of his six starts at Colonial.
Kevin Streelman ...It's been a feast-or-famine kind of year for the fifth-year PGA TOUR member. Of his eight cuts made in 13 starts, he's posted four top 20s but no other top 50s, including his last two. En route to a T10 at Colonial last year, he ranked inside the top 10 in both fairways and greens hit. To date this season, he's 73rd overall in driving accuracy and 38th in greens in regulation.
Rod Pampling ...After starting the year with top 25s in three of six starts, he's fallen short in his last six and has broken 70 just once in his last 18 rounds, but the Aussie owns a solid track record at Colonial with four top 10s, including a T10 last year. Best known as a superb putter early in his career, his game has evolved tee to green. He's currently 51st on the PGA TOUR in fairways hit and 77th in greens in regulation.
Kris Blanks ...Despite top 15s in both of his appearances at Colonial, his recent play lands him in this feature. In fact, if not for a T11 at the Valero Texas Open a month ago, an endorsement altogether would be suspect; it's his only top 25 in 16 starts in 2012. However, he didn't record his first top 25 last year until a T10 at Colonial (in what was his 15th start of the season). He's also a great fit on paper, ranking 25th on the PGA TOUR in fairways hit and 33rd in greens.
