Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum participated in a full 5-on-5 scrimmage for the first time this season on Friday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Bynum told reporters earlier in the week that he would start practicing in another week or two. Bynum is recovering from bone bruises and weakened cartilage in both knees.
The 7-footer might resume practicing soon, depending on how his knees react, a source told the Enquirer.
Bynum has not played this season. Reporters have seen him working out on the elliptical machine and the team's antigravity machine, a mechanism that allows for extensive cardiovascular work without putting much strain on joints or ligaments.
The Sixers could use Bynum. They have lost three straight, are 22-30 overall and 3 1/2 games out of the No. 8 sport in the Eastern Conference.
There is no timetable on Bynum's return.
