EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Donivine Stewart led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points as SIU-Edwardsville held off Eastern Kentucky 85-79 on Saturday night.
SIU-Edwardsville led 79-71 with 2:15 left before Eastern Kentucky went on an 8-2 capped by 3-pointer from Orlando Williams to come within 81-79. Michael Messer's basket with 35 seconds left extended the Cougars' lead to four points and after a missed 3-pointer from Eastern Kentucky, Messer hit two free throws as the Cougars held on for the win.
Messer scored 13, Tim Johnson added 12 and Kris Davis had 11 for SIU-Edwardsville (4-11, 1-1 Ohio Valley Conference).
Glenn Cosey led Eastern Kentucky (10-5, 1-1) with 23 points. Corey Walden added 19 and Williams had 18.
SIU-Edwardsville has now won two of its last three games after losing 10 of its first 12 contests.
