Sirigu: PSG has to improve

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu has said his side must improve despite picking up a 1-0 win away to Troyes on Saturday.

Blaise Matuidi's 65th-minute effort ensured all three points at Stade de l'Aube, sending the capital club 10 points clear of arch rival Olympique de Marseille at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

“We made some mistakes because we still lack experience,” Sirigu admitted to reporters after the match. “It's good to get three points, but we still need to improve. Obviously our lead in the standings is positive but there are still many games still to play.

“It's hard to play against the likes of Troyes, who find themselves in a critical situation. These teams fighting for survival are very dangerous.

“It was difficult to get into this game, because there was little time to recover from midweek and we are still tired from our travels. However, we knew we had to focus immediately on this game.”

Matuidi himself said he refused to celebrate his winning goal out of respect for his former club.

“I was trained in Troyes and the coach is the one who gave me my chance," he explained. "Also, the club is in a difficult situation, which is another reason why I did not celebrate my goal.

“This is an important victory - we had to show heart to win as it is not easy playing straight after a Champions League match.“

Meanwhile, defender Mamadou Sakho believes a Ligue 1 winners' medal is now not far away.

"The win will be very important to winning the title," the 23-year-old said. "We can await the others' results on Sunday at ease. We conceded a lot of chances but rectified it in the second period. We knew it would be a tough game, but the job was to get all three points."
