The Surf Eco Festival's Pro Junior came to an exciting conclusion on Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Brazil. The surfers were favored with partly cloudy skies and waves in the two to five foot range. Here's a brief look at some of the results:
Round 3 Results
The highest surf heat score of Round 3 was earned by surfer Nathan Brandi (BRA) during his Heat 3 matchup against Carlo Zapata (PER), Caina Barletta (BRA) and Yage Araujo (BRA). I thought that Nathan Brandi's surfing was on point. He won the heat with 14.65 points.
Round 4 Results
Round 4 kicked off with a heat between Luan Carvalho (BRA) and Gabriel Andre (BRA). Luan Carvalho opened up the heat by firing off a 6.33 point ride. He backed it up later in the heat with a 5.77 point ride that featured four turns and a commanding lip smack. Gabriel Andre answered back by delivering a sweet aerial maneuver that earned him 6.17 points. In the end, Luan Carvalho won the surf heat with 12.10 points.
The highest surf heat score of Round 4 was captured by Ian Gouveia (BRA) during his Heat 2 matchup against Victor Bernardo (BRA). If you ask me, Gouveia was on fire throughout the entire matchup. He took the lead early on and never let it go. His best wave was a 9 point ride that had a lot of powerful bottom turns. He also managed to kick up lots of spray. He won the heat with 15.83 points.
The highest surf heat score of the semifinals was earned by Deivid Silva (BRA) during his Heat 2 matchup against Caina Barletta (BRA). In my opinion, his bottom turns were well executed. He won the heat with 15.33 points.
The final matchup was between Ian Gouveia (BRA) and Deivid Silva (BRA). Ian Gouveia opened up the heat by delivering a 5.50 point ride. He backed it up later in the heat with a 7.50 point ride. Deivid Silva answered back in style. He grabbed a great wave and utilized it to fire off three solid turns. His efforts earned him 9.50 points and solidified his lead. He backed it up later with an 8.73 point ride. Ian Gouveia tried to recover. He unleashed a series of turns, a big spin and an aerial maneuver that resulted in 5.40 points. In the end, it just wasn't enough. Deivid Silva won the heat with 18.23 points.
