Shawn Marion scored 32 points to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a close victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, 100-98. The Mavericks picked up the victory due in large part to their efficiency handling the basketball, accumulating 33 assists and turning it over only 11 times. Dallas (18-13) has now won back-to-back games after defeating Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
Marion went 14-19 from the field (4-6 on 3-point attempts) in a quality performance offensively. Dirk Nowitzki also contributed for Dallas, finishing with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Kevin Love had another strong game for Minnesota in the loss, putting up 36 points on 14-24 shooting (2-7 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 6-8 from the free throw line. He also registered 11 rebounds. Nikola Pekovic added 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mavericks posted a sterling assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.00. This year, they are 5-1 when they exceed 2.50 in this metric. Conversely, the Timberwolves are 1-2 when allowing their opponents to achieve such a stellar ratio.
This drops Minnesota (15-16) to 2-1 against Dallas on the year.
Coming up, the Mavericks square off with the Washington Wizards, who are 14-14 on the season. The Timberwolves match up against the New Orleans Pelicans, currently sitting at 14-15 this year. The Mavericks are 1-0 versus Washington this season.
