Buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

Shanahan says RG-3 is ahead of schedule

National Football Post

Stop me if you have heard this before: Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan says Robert Griffin III is “ahead of schedule” in his recovery from surgery to repair torn ACL and LCL ligaments in his right knee.

While we’re not questioning Shanahan, it’s going to be news the next time a team comes out and admits a player is behind schedule in recovery from surgery. In Griffin’s case, the surgery was performed in January, so he’s early in the process.

Shanahan did admit he had “no idea” if Griffin will be ready to play at the start of the regular season, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

“Robert is doing well,” Shanahan said, according to the report. “He’s getting some great work in here, working out a couple times a day, about six hours a day, seven hours. He is ahead of schedule according to Larry (Hess, the team’s head athletic trainer). That means the muscles are stronger than they anticipated and he is doing everything he can to be ready for this season."

The Redskins surely will be prepared to open the season with Kirk Cousins as the starter in the event Griffin’s recovery isn’t quite as speedy as the club would hope.
