Sergio Pettis Likely to Join His Brother in the Octagon, but UFC Deal Not Inked Yet
It appears that Sergio Pettis, younger brother to UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, could soon be headed to the Octagon.
Pettis’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach, Daniel Wanderley, told Globo.com that Sergio signed with the UFC and will move up to fight in the bantamweight division. He added that Pettis’ debut could come as soon as UFC 167 on Nov. 16, although he said an opponent had not yet been agreed upon.
While a deal is apparently imminent, MMAWeekly.com sources close to the situation said that the UFC and Pettis’ camp are in talks, but that, as of Tuesday morning, a deal had yet to be signed.
It would, however, be rather surprising if a deal doesn’t eventually get done, as he has long been on the UFC’s radar.
Sergio Pettis is 9-0 as a professional, holding both the RFA flyweight championship and the NAFC bantamweight championship. He won the NAFC belt this past weekend with a first-round submission victory over James Porter in Pettis’ hometown of Milwaukee.
