Serena Williams took her time to find her rhythm at Wimbledon 2012, and most people would agree that she has improved with every match. The American star looked back to her best during her powerful win against Victoria Azarenka in their semi-final clash.
I think the most alarming statistic is the 24 aces she hit; Azarenka did not play a terrible match by any means. But Serena's serve was so impressive that there was little she could do with so many of those points.
The concern for Agnieszka Radwanska, in the final, will be simply having an opportunity to cause Serena Williams any problems. So often, the American wins these free points that their opponent has no chance to play their own game.
This is surely the best serve ever seen from a female player, and it makes things particularly difficult when finding a way to cause Williams problems. I think is fair to say that Poland's Radwanska does not stand any chance if Serena is serving as she did against Azarenka.
Even if Radwanska can stay with her and not get lose her own serve, she will still be at a major disadvantage in a tiebreak situation. On the other hand, being broken by the American can often prove to be crucial, due to the difficulty of breaking her serve in return.
Therefore, I think this title is entirely within Serena Williams' hands. Playing at her best will surely lead to a comfortable straight sets victory. But if her levels drop then Radwanska might get a chance. However, if this were to happen there would be an argument that Williams would have lost the match, rather than her opponent winning it.
Nevertheless, this is undoubtedly Radwanska's best hope. After all, the history books don't detail the circumstances of the match, but purely the result. I have watched a fair amount of Serena Williams during the course of Wimbledon 2012.
And it is fair to say that the USA player has grown into the tournament. She was certainly not finding the rhythm and serving in the first week as she did in her semi-final. This is the one hope for Radwanska.
However, it would only be clutching at straws, because it is unlikely that Serena will suddenly lose her rhythm again after finding it. Williams hasn't won a Grand Slam title since 2010, but she surely has too much experience to get nervous.
