For the first time since their inaugural season, the Seattle Sounders beat the LA Galaxy in MLS play. Eddie Johnson and Fredy Montero scored in the 2-0 win.
After going nearly two years without a goal, Eddie Johnson has two in a week. Following the weekend's winner against the Chicago Fire, EJ opened the scoring against the Galaxy. Landon Donovan stood off Mauro Rosales, who curled a cross into the box. Johnson rose above AJ DeLaGarza to snap a header which bounced inside the far post.
Minutes into the second half, Fredy Montero scored his first goal of 2012. It was also very possibly the best goal MLS will see in 2012. The Colombian uncorked from 40 yards, the ball swerving, verving, knuckling until it swished net.
Montero celebrated with a cute little roll on the CenturyLink turf, landing sitting down and lapping up the adulation of the 39,000 who came out for the Wednesday night game.
The only negative on the night for the Sounders was that starting goalkeeper Michael Gspurning left the match at halftime with a hip complaint.
