Seattle Sounders FC had won five straight, without losing in six. Bryan Meredith had yet to concede in MLS play. Fredy Montero had at least a point in three straight games. The team hadn't trailed for some 500 minutes.
All of those streaks came to a sudden halt Saturday when Real Salt Lake grabbed a 1-0 win in CenturyLink Field.
Early in the second half Luis Gil pushed the ball forward and Adam Johansson failed to deal with it, letting Fabian Espindola snap a left-footed volley past Meredith.
A few minutes later Eddie Johnson was humorously booked for heading the ball out of Nick Rimando's hands. Seattle didn't force a single save out of the RSL goalkeeper.
