What to Expect This Season
We know what David Moyes has done on Everton’s limited budget over the years. We know that Roberto Martinez defied the experts who said that Wigan had no business staying up. What we don’t know is what Martinez will do with at least some additional budget and more talent upon his arrival. Can he continue to find diamonds in the rough the way Moyes did? Can he keep his biggest names? If he can’t, will he use the funds generated from those sales wisely as Moyes did? It’s a brave new world at Everton. If Martinez retains Baines and Fellaini and gets a relatively healthy season from Mirallas then the first year of the transition is likely to be smooth.
Player to Watch
Kevin Mirallas – When he was healthy last season, he was exceptional. The problem was that he wasn’t healthy often enough for most fantasy managers. Even worse, his health was unpredictable week to week which meant that lots of managers were burned by a zero from Mirallas. With the new bench rules and the potential for a better injury record I would expect Mirallas to be a more popular choice this time around.
Eighth – I like what Everton has done this summer but they haven’t gained THAT much on United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Spurs and Liverpool and Swansea have done just enough to pass the Toffees.
