Seahawks WR Rice out for season

The SportsXchange

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice will miss the remainder of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, the team confirmed Tuesday.

Rice was injured in the second quarter of Seattle's 14-9 win over the St. Louis Rams on Monday night. On a first-and-goal play from the St. Louis 9-yard line, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw an incomplete pass intended for Rice in the end zone. Rice got tangled up with Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins, and after the play, Rice was slow to get up. He never returned to action.

Through the first eight weeks of the season, Rice was the Seahawks' third-leading receiver with 231 yards.

The Seahawks' receiving corps might not be short-handed for long, as wide receiver Percy Harvin could be back in action as soon as this week. Harvin, who returned to practice last week, has not played this season after undergoing hip surgery.

The NFC West-leading Seahawks (7-1) play host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7) on Sunday.
