Seahawks WR Harvin, CB Browner out vs. 49ers

The SportsXchange

RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks continue to take a conservative approach with Percy Harvin, ruling the wide receiver out of Sunday's game at the San Francisco 49ers.

Harvin will miss his second consecutive game after making his Seahawks debut against the Minnesota Vikings just before Seattle's Week 12 bye. Harvin continues to deal with soreness in his surgically-repaired hip, but coach Pete Carroll said there has been no consideration to shutting Harvin down until the playoffs and that the Seahawks continue to approach it on a week-to-week basis.

"We're looking forward to next week being a really important week. We think we got a shot at (Harvin returning)," Carroll said. "It'll be kind of week-to-week in a sense as we go forward."

Cornerback Brandon Browner was also ruled out of the 49ers due to his groin injury. Carroll said he has heard no update on Browner's reported appeal of a year-long suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

NFL.com reported Friday that Browner turned down a deal that would significantly shorten his suspension and allow him to return to the field as early as next October. Browner, who is scheduled to become a free agent after this season, could be out until next December if he loses his appeal.

Browner got in a little work Thursday, but didn't show much progress with the significant groin injury and the Seahawks didn't strongly consider letting him face the 49ers.

Carroll said the Seahawks have enjoyed a strong week of practice and downplayed any concern over traveling on a short week following Monday night's victory over New Orleans.

"Even though the fact that it was short, we made the most of Wednesday and then we came back Thursday and Friday and put together great days and it's the kind of days we're hoping to put together and you could tell not just from the spirit of it, but the attention to the details and the guys really on their game plan," Carroll said. "So that's what we're looking for."

--OLB Bruce Irvin (hip) was listed as probable and Carroll said, "He'll be fine. He'll be ready to go."

--TE Kellen Davis (neck), RB Marshawn Lynch (not injury related) and WR Golden Tate (hip) are listed as probable and expected to play at San Francisco.
