Seahawks: Five players who balled out vs. Rams

The Seahawks stumbled against Jeff Fisher and his clown car riders yet again on Sunday. The Rams held Seattle out of the end-zone and went on to win 9-3. Even though it was another disappointing performance there were several players who stood out that are worth mentioning.

Five Seahawks who played well vs. Rams

1. Tyler Lockett

Seattle’s offense was plagued by mistakes and general incompetence all afternoon. One bright shining star was that of wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who bounced back from a bad Week 1 that saw him drop a couple of passes.

Lockett caught all four of his targets for 99 yards. He was flagged for a terribly tacky offensive pass interference penalty that would have resulted in another explosive gain. His final 53-yard catch might have even won the game if he hadn’t been tripped up by his man at the last moment.

If you want to see a great clinic on wide receiver footwork, watch Lockett in this game. The moves that he made throughout his routes were fantastic and he has all the potential to be a dominant NFL receiver.

Doug Baldwin is the man for now but Lockett is the future of this offense.

2. Christine Michael

Thomas Rawls left the game relatively early after struggling (he averaged -1.0 yards per carry) and then getting kicked in the leg. Fortunately, Michael answered the bell.

C-Mike averaged 6.0 yards per carry despite some terrible blocking from Seattle’s offensive line. In the third quarter he had a couple of great runs that normally would have provided a spark for a scoring drive, but the passing game simply wasn’t there.

True, the late fumble was bad optics but Michael can’t be blamed too much given the bigger picture. This latest fumble was a hiccup, not a roadblock or indicator that he’s regressed back to the old mediocre Michael. Even if Rawls is 100 percent for next week this is starting to look like Christine Michael’s year to break out at running back.

3. K.J. Wright

Bobby Wagner got a lot of attention for his performance and rightfully so. Even still, any chance that we get to pump up the perpetually underrated K.J. Wright, we’re going to take it.

Wright led the Seahawks with nine combined tackles, including one for a loss. His always-solid run defense was instrumental in limiting Todd Gurley to just 2.7 yards per carry. If Wright doesn’t make it to the Pro Bowl this year we’re calling for an investigation.

4 and 5: Michael Bennett and Frank Clark

We’re going to start grouping these two together because they do so many of the same things on the field. First and foremost, they both get after the quarterback from a variety of different positions.

Together, these two monster defensive ends combined for four quarterback hits, six tackles for a loss and three sacks.

If you’re wondering why the Seahawks haven’t given Bennett an enormous contract extension yet, pay closer attention to Clark. Even in the worst-case scenario (Bennett signing elsewhere in two years) Clark looks like he can step up into that role one day down the line. He has all the tools he needs, it’s just a matter of experience and development.
