Sea Dogs lose Thomas to suspension

The QMJHL's Saint John Sea Dogs will soldier on without their emotional and spiritual leader, since Mike Thomas has received a one-game suspension for Game 4 tonight against Victoriaville. Saint John is ahead 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.

"Although it was only a minor penalty in Tuesday night's game, Sea Dogs winger Mike Thomas will miss tonight's contest due to a one-game suspension for charging. QMJHL disciplinary prefect Raymond Bolduc made the ruling Thursday after the Tigres submitted a videotape showing Thomas' hit on Victoriaville defenceman Keven Dupont.

"The league's review also included a newspaper photo showing that Thomas had left his feet, albeit after he had made contact with Dupont. Sea Dogs associate coach and hockey operations director Mike Kelly had an intense conversation with Bolduc via cell phone upon learning of the ruling Thursday."

Station Nation, your new favourite Sea Dogs blog, has link to the photo in question that shows Thomas with his feet off the ice after driving Dupont into the boards. Dupont reportedly has a concussion and broken nose. When that happens, some response is needed.
