Scott Jorgensen Drops to Flyweight; Faces Ian McCall at UFC on Fox 9 in December

Scott Jorgensen was one of the top bantamweight fighters in the world. He’s cashing in his chips at 135 pounds, however, and making the drop to 125 pounds.

Jorgensen will make his flyweight debut against Ian McCall at UFC on Fox 9 on Dec. 14 in Sacramento, Calif.

UFC officials announced the bout on Tuesday.

Jorgensen (14-7) has been in and out of the bantamweight title picture for quite some time. He’s coming off of a rough patch, losing three of his last four bouts, including his last, to friend and former training partner Urijah Faber at the TUF 17 Finale in April.

Jorgenson’s lone title shot was a unanimous decision loss to current UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz at WEC 53 in December of 2010. He’s hoping to get back in the title picture, only this time he intends to do it at flyweight.

McCall (12-4-1) is a former Tachi Palace Fights champion, but hasn’t found the same success since he joined the UFC early last year to enter its four-man flyweight championship tournament.

He fought to a draw with now-champion Demetrious Johnson in the opening round of the tournament, but lost the rematch and his follow-up bout to Joseph Benavidez earlier this year.

McCall recently rebounded at UFC 163 with unanimous decision victory over Iliarde Santos.

UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis puts his belt on the line for the first time when he faces former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson in the UFC on Fox 9 main event.
