Schurrle: Chelsea competition will not affect Germany World Cup hopes

Chelsea summer signing Andre Schurrle has dismissed the notion that reduced game time at Stamford Bridge will hurt his chances of representing Germany at the World Cup.

The midfielder arrived from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer in a deal reportedly worth 18 million pounds, to add to attacking midfield options while already boasting Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Juan Mata and, lastly, Willian.

After coming off the bench in Chelsea's opening two Premier League games, Schurrle started the next four and is confident the increased competition for places will only serve to aid his progression.

"That didn't cross my mind. I was 100 percent sure it was the right move," Schurrle told Bundesliga.com. "Every day in training, I'm under pressure to perform against top players. That's a benefit to me. In the long run, it will also have a positive effect for me in the national team.

"[The competition] is great. We've got plenty of players in attacking positions and the coach likes to rotate a lot, but it's going well. I feel the players trust me, especially the older ones who have already been in the team for a long time."

Schurrle insists he is enjoying the "more robust" nature of English football and feels manager Jose Mourinho's tactical approach suits his own strengths.

When asked about Mourinho's counterattacking game, Schurrle replied: "That's exactly what I'm about: breaking quickly and quickly rounding it off. It really suits me.

"He is undoubtedly one of the best coaches. He's won so much. For me, it's a great honor to be able to train under him. He gives so much and you really feel his unbelievable experience. I know he trusts me and backs my game."
