The consensus among our sources in St. Louis is that new Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has something to prove after earning mixed reviews in the same capacity with the Jets. "He did not do the greatest job developing Mark Sanchez," one team insider said of Schottenheimer, who we hear beat out former Raiders head coach Hue Jackson in a "close call" for the offensive-coordinator job. "The real key will be whoever ends up as the QB coach." We hear it would be a mistake to automatically assume Schottenheimer will stress the same kind of run-heavy, "ground and pound" attack the Jets so effectively used in 2009-10. However, with Schottenheimer being a two-back proponent and free-agent RBs Cadillac Williams and Jerious Norwood considered long shots to re-sign, look for the Rams to perhaps seriously pursue backfield help via free agency and the draft.
