The SATA Airlines Azores Pro got back underway on Thursday, September 6, 2012 in the Azores. The weather was not as pleasant as it was on the first day of the surfing competition. The surfers were greeted with gray skies, strong winds and waves in the three to four foot range. Nonetheless, many surf heats were completed. Here's a quick look at some of the latest results:

Round 144 Results

Round 144 was completed late in the day on Wednesday, September 5, 2012. The highest surf heat score of the round was earned by Messias Felix (BRA) during his Heat 10 matchup against Eduardo Fernandes (PRT), Leandro Usuna (ARG) and Dylan Southworth (MEX). Messias Felix won the surf heat with 16.16 points. His best wave was an 8.43 point ride.

Round 96 Results

Round 96 started off with a surf heat between Tiago Pires (PRT), Frederico Morais (PRT), Pedro Miguel Lopes Cordeiro (PRT) and Ryan Callinan (AUS). Tiago Pires won the surf heat with 15.16 points. He is anticipated to surf again in Round 48, Heat 1 against Evan Geiselman (USA), Steven Pierson (PYF) and Brian Toth (PRI).

Heat 12 featured surfers Filipe Toledo (BRA), Peterson Crisanto (BRA), Tanner Gudauskas (USA) and Masatoshi Ohno (JPN). I had hoped to see a series of aerial maneuvers unleashed during the surf heat but it was not to be. Instead, the surfers delivered an array of power moves that resulted in a fairly close finish. Filipe Toledo won the surf heat with 12.80 points. Tanner Gudauskas completed the surf heat with 12.67 points. Both are expected to surf again in Round 48.

Heat 13 featured surfers Glenn Hall (IRL), Jeffrey Lukasik (USA), Santiago Muniz (ARG) and Medi Veminardi (REU). Glenn Hall opened up the surf heat by delivering a commanding backhand maneuver that earned him 4.17 points. He backed it up with a 5.17 point ride, which put him in the lead. However, he wasn't able to hold onto the top spot. Santiago Muniz knocked Hall out of position by firing off a 6.50 point ride. I thought that Santiago's surfing displayed a lot of speed and power. In the end, Santiago Muniz won the surf heat with 12.43 points. He is scheduled to surf again in Round 48, Heat 7 against Dion Atkinson (AUS), Yujiro Tsuji (JPN) and Vincent Duvignac (FRA).
