The San Miguel Pro Zarautz resumed on Friday, August 31, 2012 in Spain. The rambunctious waves were in the three to four foot range. The skies were cloudy and the onshore winds were strong. Despite it all, the surfers were able to complete Round 48. Here's a brief look at some of the results:

Round 48 Results

Round 48 started off with a surf heat between Glenn Hall (IRL), Ricardo Ferreira (BRA), Alexandre Chacon (BRA) and Jano Belo (BRA). Glenn Hall delivered an amazing 8.33 point ride and won the surf heat with 15.16 points. As impressive as Glenn Hall's 8.33 point ride was, it wasn't the best one of the round.

The highest surf heat score of Round 48 was earned by Joan Duru (FRA) during his Heat 2 matchup against Caio Ibelli (BRA), Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR) and Thomas Woods (AUS). If you ask me, Joan Duru looked incredible. He fired off a striking 9.70 point ride and a 9.03 point ride. He won the surf heat with 18.73 points.

Round 48 ended with a surf heat between Filipe Toledo (BRA), Jay Thompson (AUS), Keanu Asing (HAW) and Beyrick De Vries (ZAF). Filipe Toledo kept really busy and grabbed 15 waves well before the surf heat ended. Unfortunately for Toledo, they were not high scoring waves.

Beyrick De Vries also kept busy throughout the surf heat. However, he was able to capture a handful of high scores. His best waves were a 7.33 point ride and a 7.17 point ride. He won the surf heat with 14.50 points. Beyrick De Vries is expected to surf again in Round 24, Heat 8 against Simao Romao (BRA).

Round 24 Results

Round 24 kicked off with a surf heat between Glenn Hall (IRL), Joan Duru (FRA) and Luke Davis (USA). Glenn Hall opened up the surf heat with a sweet 6.43 point ride and a 4.97 point ride. I thought that his big, sweeping carves were powerful and well executed. Joan Duru didn't do as well as I had expected. He did, however, manage to fire off a 6.43 point ride and a 3.97 point ride. Glenn Hall won the surf heat with 11.40 points. Both Joan Duru and Glenn Hall are expected to surf again in Round 16.

What's Next?

The San Miguel Pro Zarautz is slated to resume on Saturday, September 1, 2012 and run through Sunday, September 2, 2012. Personally, I am hoping that surfer Glenn Hall (IRL) will make it at least as far as the quarterfinals. Of course it would also be great to see him win it all. Surf fans will be able to continue watching all the remaining surf heats via the San Miguel Pro Zarautz's website.
