The San Jose Earthquakes took all three points in a vital 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids to keep their playoff hopes alive Wednesday night.
Chris Wondolowski scored the vital goal in the 69th minute, heading in Shea Salinas' corner kick past Rapids goalkeeper Clint Irwin to make it 1-0. The goal was his 10th on the year, marking the fourth straight season the Bay Area native has made it to double digit goals.
Wondolowski's breakthrough came after a series of saves from Irwin and one double save by Rapids center back Drew Moor, who cleared a shot from Wondolowski off the line and managed to block Alan Gordon's rebound attempt minutes before the go-ahead goal.
The victory moves the Quakes (13-11-8) to sixth place, just a point behind Colorado (13-10-9) in the final playoff spot.
