San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Football Week 6: Fan Preview

Yahoo Contributor Network

Note: The opinions expressed here are my takes on the San Francisco 49ers' key players during the 2012 fantasy football season. As always, use your best judgment and conduct your own research on who to start or bench each week. You know your individual team and/or league situation better than anyone else. All statistics and point totals are based on Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football standard scoring system.

Alex Smith, QB

Smith finished the week earning 29.02 fantasy points in a blowout victory over the Buffalo Bills. This week he faces a New York Giants' defense that has allowed an average of 18.34 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season. Smith had his best game of the season last week and has an opportunity for a big passing game this week against the vulnerable New York secondary. Look for at least 17.00 fantasy points this week.

Frank Gore, RB

Gore had another strong week earning 16.60 fantasy points against the Bills. This week he faces a Giants' defense that has given up an average of 16.28 fantasy points to running backs this season. Gore has the opportunity to explode against the Giants given that Cleveland Browns' rookie Trent Richardson scored 18.80 fantasy points against them last week. Look for at least 14.00 fantasy points this week.

Michael Crabtree, WR

Like Smith, Crabtree had his best game of the season scoring 17.30 fantasy points against the Bills last week. This week he faces a New York defense that has allowed an average of 26.72 fantasy points per game to wide receivers this season. Crabtree is coming off a great game and faces a vulnerable secondary but has been very inconsistent from a fantasy perspective. With that said, expect a lowered estimate of around 8.00 fantasy points this week.

Vernon Davis, TE

Davis finished the week earning 10.60 fantasy points against Buffalo. This week he faces a Giants' defense that has given up an average of just 4.96 fantasy points per game to tight ends this season. Despite the low overall average of points allowed by New York, Davis has a great matchup this week. Look for at least 9.00 fantasy points on the week.

Defense

San Francisco finished the week earning 12.00 fantasy points against the Bills. This week they face a New York defense that has given up an average of just 3.00 fantasy points to team defense this season. San Francisco is playing at home but this is not necessarily the best matchup. If you are one that rotates team defense it may be a better idea to consider other options. Look for around 6.00 fantasy points this week.
