New Orleans Saints rookie safety Kenny Vaccaro is scheduled to have surgery Tuesday to repair a broken ankle and is out for the season.
Saints coach Sean Payton said Monday an MRI revealed a clean break. Vaccaro was injured Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
Vacarro had 79 tackles, seven pass breakups, a sack, an interception and a forced fumble in 14 games played. He missed one game due to a concussion.
The Saints (10-5) can still win the NFC South with a win over the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a Carolina Panthers loss against the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints hold a tiebreaker over the Panthers (11-4).
