The SportsXchange

The New Orleans Saints set an NFL record for most yards allowed in a single season Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

New Orleans' last-ranked defense gave up 287 yards in the first half against Carolina, running its total to 6,799 yards. That surpassed the mark of 6,793 by the Baltimore Colts in 1981.

Steve Spagnuolo is in his first season as the Saints defensive coordinator. Saints assistant head coach Joe Vitt, who also coaches the linebackers, was an assistant coach with the '81 Colts.
