Saints QB Daniel, DE Romeus injured

The Saints’ first-team QB this offseason, Chase Daniel, has suffered a hairline fracture on his thumb.

Saints interim head coach Joe Vitt told reporters Wednesday that Daniel’s injury occurred when he hit his thumb on a helmet.

The third-year player has been the team’s first-team quarterback this offseason, as Drew Brees sits out waiting for a new long-term contract. The Saints concluded their minicamp last week and have one more OTA on June 14. The only healthy quarterbacks with the Saints currently are Sean Canfield and Luke McCown.

Vitt also announced that DE Greg Romeus suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee. A seventh-round pick in 2011, Romeus missed his entire rookie season after tearing the ACL in his right knee in college.
