The Saints got healthy just in time for the their most important preseason matchup.
After posting double-digit inactives in both matchups versus the Rams and the Titans (12 and 15 respectively), the Saints knocked the number down to nine for their matchup with the Colts. Those that returned from injury were Drew Brees, Jairus Byrd, Champ Bailey, Keenan Lewis, and a few more.
Wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who hadn't practiced the majority of the week with an illness, dressed out and participated in warmups but ended up not getting any time in the game.
During the game all of Who Dat Nation had a collective scare when star pass rusher Junior Galette remained on the ground after a play. He eventually would jog off of the field with the trainers and it was only the wind being knocked out of him. Kenny Stills, who has been nursing a quadriceps injury throughout all of training camp, finally returned to action but left the game after re-aggravating the same quad. He will likely be held out the rest of the preseason and is a viable option for the PUP list.
It was great to see so many starters return against the Colts as the third game is usually the matchup where these guys get the most playing time and the Colts are undoubtedly the best team on their exhibition schedule. With Jahri Evans and Grubbs back in the fold on the line, the offensive line looked solid. Brees was protected very well and running lanes were opened for the backs. The defense performed great as well, forcing three turnovers (a fourth should've occurred but Keenan Lewis was robbed of an interception), forcing the Colts to turnover on downs twice, and sacking the Colts' quarterbacks three times.
Last night was a sneak preview of how the Saints will look when they are healthy: like one of the more dominant teams in the NFL.
