Saint Mary's pulls away to beat San Diego, 69-57

AP - Sports

MORAGA, Calif. (AP) -- James Walker III converted a three-point play with 11 minutes to play to spark a 9-0 run by Saint Mary's that earned the Gaels a 69-57 win over San Diego Thursday night.

San Diego led by five, 45-40 with under 15 minutes to play but Walker scored a layup and a three-point play to knot the score at 47-47. After Simi Fajemisin's jumper gave the Toreros a two-point lead, Kerry Carter added two free throws before Walker turned another three-point play that gave Saint Mary's the lead for good.

Walker finished with 21 points to lead Saint Mary's (19-7, 9-4 West Coast Conference), which takes over second-place in conference, a game ahead of Brigham Young, which lost to Pacific Thursday. Stephen Holt added 13 points and Carter 12.
