EASTON, Pa. (AP) -- Alec Finney converted a 42-yard field goal as time expired to give Sacred Heart a 26-24 victory against Lafayette on Saturday night.
Finney, a freshman, made his first-career field goal attempt to help the Pioneers (2-0) secure a road victory and spoil Lafayette's season opener.
Neither team led by more than a touchdown, both scored consistently and each generated more than 400 yards of total offense.
Chris Rogers handles shorter kicks for Sacred Heart and converted three second half field goals before Finney made the last-second attempt.
A 12-yard touchdown run by Ross Scheuerman gave Lafayette a 24-23 lead with just over two minutes left before the winning field goal.
Sacred Heart had its way on the ground, racking up 322 yards. Keshaudas Spence gained 168 yards on the ground while quarterback Rj Noel had 121 yards rushing and one touchdown to lead the Pioneers.
