Sacramento Kings 2012-2013 Game-by-Game Predictions: One NBA Fan's Outlook

Yahoo Contributor Network

Two seasons ago, it looked like the Sacramento Kings were planning to build their future around Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins. But heading into this season, with the Kings yet to offer Evans a contract extension (they have until Wednesday, October 31 to work out a deal or Evans will become a restricted free agent on July 1, 2013), it is unclear whether Evans will be a part of Sacramento's future beyond this season.

The uncertainty of Evans' contract situation will affect how the former Rookie of the Year performs this season. And given the fact that Evans is still one of the main guys in Sacramento, how he performs will substantially impact the Kings' season.

The Kings picked up their team option on the mercurial Cousins and he is signed with Sacramento through the 2013-2014 season. The 6'11" center/forward has the skills to be a 20/10 guy in the league but he sometimes gets in his own way with his petulant behavior.

For the time being, Evans and Cousins remain the cornerstones of the Kings, but with Evans' contract situation and the emergence of shooting guard Marcus Thornton that may possibly change before the end of the season.

Before the season is complete, instead of continuing to build around Evans and Cousins, the Kings may determine that Cousins and rookie Thomas Robinson should be the cornerstones of their franchise.
