Given that neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be involved in the incident and that there were no curfew violation (the accident occurred around midnight) in play, the main concern here is not potential punishment, but rather Mathews' health. Aside from some current aches and pains though -- which are not unusual in cases like these -- it appears, fortunately, as though his long-term status will not be impacted.

Update: Mathews acknowledged that he banged up his elbow "a little bit" in the minor car crash that he was involved late Monday night, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. "I felt like I played about four games (Monday) when I woke up (Tuesday) morning," Mathews said.
