Recommendation: Mathews is more than five weeks into a projected four-to-six week timetable to recover from a broken clavicle which he injured Aug. 9. There was some thought that he might be able to come back in Week 2, but he ended up missing the game primarily due to a lack of practice time, so his ability to participate this week is key to his return. "You've got to get the reps," Mathews said of his need for practice time. "Just get the speed down again. That's the main thing. Just getting my speed down. It should be fun. I've got to do it one day at a time to see how it looks for Sunday." We will track his progress throughout the week, but things are looking good for him at this point.
Update: Mathews (shoulder) is expected to fully participate in practice with the Chargers beginning Wednesday and if all goes according to plan, he will make his season debut against the Falcons on Sunday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
