Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay strained his left Achilles tendon and will wear a walking boot for several days before it's reevaluated, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

Gay underwent an MRI on Thursday, a day after injuring himself in a loss to the Houston Rockets.

The Kings plan to be cautious in bringing back Gay, but the injury isn't considered serious. For Gay and the Kings, this is a small setback in what has been so far been a prosperous partnership.

Gay has prospered with the Kings since they acquired him from the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 8, averaging 19.9 points on 51 percent shooting. He scored 41 points in a victory over New Orleans just 24 hours earlier on Tuesday.

Gay has a $19.7 million contract option for the 2014-15 season, but the possibility exists that he'll opt out of the deal to sign a longer-term extension with the Kings.
