Royals place OF Aoki on DL

The SportsXchange

The Kansas City Royals placed outfielder Nori Aoki on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a groin injury.

Aoki did not play Wednesday and was a pinch hitter Friday.

The club recalled outfielder Justin Maxwell from Triple-A Omaha to take Aoki's spot on the 25-man roster.

Aoki has a batting line of .263/.326/.324 with 14 RBIs and seven stolen bases this season. He has been hot in his last five starts, going 7-for-19 with three doubles.

Maxwell, who is batting .316 with an on-base percentage of .358 with Omaha, will likely share right field duties with Jarrod Dyson. In 29 earlier at-bats with Kansas City, Maxwell batted just .138 with two RBIs.

Dyson will likely start in center field and lead off against right-handed pitchers. He has a batting line of .296/.346/.316.
