Royals giving Dyson a long look

Center fielder Jarrod Dyson is getting a second and extended chance with the Kansas City Royals.

Dyson was recalled from Class AAA Omaha and immediately inserted into the lineup as the

leadoff hitter Friday night in a 7-6 victory over the Twins. Dyson went 1-for-5 and scored

a run as the Royals won their third straight after ending a 12-game losing streak

Wednesday at Cleveland. The Royals moved out of the basement and past the Twins with the


Dyson was up earlier in April, but after only two games, both starts, was sent back to

the Storm Chasers. The Royals anticipated outfielder Lorenzo Cain would be back in the

lineup Friday, but he had a setback while rehabbing with Class AA Northwest Arkansas.

Manager Ned Yost had been mostly platooning outfielders Mitch Maier and Jason Bourgeois

in center after Dyson's two-day stay. Cain, however, will be out for a while with a hip

flexor strain, so Dyson will get the majority of the starts there.

"We want Dyson to play, it's as simple as that," Yost said. "We were expecting Cain

back (Friday), but he's going to be out for an extended amount of time so we want to look

at Dyson, we want to give him a shot."

Dyson was 7-for-13 in his final three games in the Pacific Coast League to raise his

average to .333 with three doubles, three triples and seven stolen bases in eight
