Rousey signs with UFC

Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is joining the UFC.

The move was announced Friday by UFC president Dana White during an appearance on Jim Rome's national radio show.

After a week of rumors about a potential deal, UFC President Dana White confirmed the signing Friday.

"Yes, it's official," White said. "Ronda Rousey did sign with the UFC.

"She has the whole package. ... This girl is nasty. She might be beautiful on the outside, but she's a Diaz brother on the inside. She's a real fighter and real talented. She has the credentials and the pedigree. And she has the 'it' factor. I think she's going to be a big superstar."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. It is not known when she will debut or who she will face.

Rousey is the first and only woman to join the UFC. A deal had been rumored for about a week but White confirmed it while promoting Saturday's UFC 154 event.

Welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre defends his title against interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit in Montreal. St. Pierre returns after being sidelined with an injury to his right anterior cruciate ligament.

Rousey is 6-0 in MMA, 4-0 in Strikeforce. She is an Olympic bronze medalist in judoka. She expects to become the UFC's women's bantamweight championship once her title changes promotions.

The move to UFC may relate to rumors that Strikeforce will dissolve after its Jan. 12 show. Rousey is not scheduled to compete in the event, but it will include three other champions.
