ZURICH (AP) -- The deadline for Olympic hockey rosters has been pushed back to Jan. 7.
Originally, national federations had until Dec. 31 to submit 25-man rosters. The tournament in Sochi begins Feb. 12 and European countries sought a later date. The International Ice Hockey Federation says teams will now have until noon EST on Jan. 7.
The U.S. will still disclose its rosters Jan. 1 in conjunction with the Winter Classic. The women's team will be announced during the second intermission. The men's team will be announced after the Toronto-Detroit game in Ann Arbor, Mich.
NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in an email to The Canadian Press on Wednesday the league and players' union were consulted on the change.
The IIHF said it a chose a date that would not conflict with the end of the world junior hockey championship on Jan. 5.
